A Little Glitter for the Holidays

    VermeilHoliday

So much for silver bells, white winters, and red and green... everything. Add a splash of gold to warm up your spirit and your look this holiday season!

After years of using only silver to create our jewelry, we decided to create a collection that has the stunning and classy look of gold while remaining true to our silver roots. Vermeil is a thick, gold plating which is put over our sterling silver designs so the jewelry appears gold, but is without the gold price tag. We have chosen some of our favorite designs to offer in vermeil including many of the message beads, chunky chokers, and dainty discs.

Wear vermeil yourself to add a little shine on hose cold, dreary days, or give it to others and show your heart of gold!

    Food Bank needs...

    IMG_0269

A typical dozen from our chickens consists of 8 brown eggs and 4 light green eggs.

You have all probably read about our chickens.  Well, we of course have WAY too many eggs each week for our family needs. When my daughter learned that she needed to do a service project for 6th grade she decided to sell her eggs to earn money for the local food bank.  Funny thing to be selling eggs to buy food.  But most food banks in our area can't use perishable items.   The whole process has been such a great learning experience for her. She brings in the eggs to her school and sells them on the honor system.  Every other week we collect the money from the office and go to a discount grocery store and buy food for the food bank. It's wonderful to see Kyra making great choices about how to spend the money she earns.

Read about what you food bank is likely to need most.

I have been reading so many statistics of the increase in need across the US for food at food banks this year.  Our local food banks have seen an increase in need of 25% this year alone.

Throughout the USA 12.5% or 1 in 8 people are at risk of not having enough food on a daily basis.   To me that is a staggering thought....It's a basic human need that is not happening for a portion of people in the US.

Find out what you can do...Just think... if everyone that could shared their resources it could solve world hunger.

Most larger communities have food banks.  Find yours and donate food year round, not just at the holidays!

In the Spirit of Maggie Lee Henson

    MaggieLee

As my act of kindness I decided to create a charm where 100 percent of the profits go towards charities. This month all proceeds will go towards digging wells in Africa.

    About Maggie Lee For Good
Maggie Lee Henson would have been 13 on October 29, 2009 had she not died from injuries received while on her way to youth camp.

Maggie Lee For Good began as a facebook group when Kelly Alamon posted the idea on Maggie Lee's Caringbridge website. She thought it would be great to have 1300 people commit to a good deed. Within 24 hours, the group had increased to 1500 people and the goal of 13,000 members was suggested.

The name Maggie Lee For Good comes from her favorite Broadway play, Wicked, whose song, "I Have Been Changed For Good," was sung at Maggie Lee's Celebration of Life Service on August 6th at FBC, Shreveport.

Maggie Lee was the kind of young lady who creatively loved people. Whether it was asking her mom to pull over and buy a hamburger for a homeless person or sticking up for a friend, she made the world a better place with her presence.

Our hope is that whether you bake cookies for a lonely neighbor, donate your time at a homeless shelter or food kitchen or just take the time to listen to your kids as you drive them home from school, that October the 29th will be a significant day for you.
